Israel and State Terrorism

In the video of the lecture given by Alessandro Orsini, entitled "Israel and State Terrorism" and part of the event "THE COURAGE OF PEACE" 4th edition in Florence (5 October 2024), the speaker addresses a number of issues concerning international power dynamics, focusing in particular on the role of the United States, NATO and Israel in various conflicts, and the violations of international law and human rights by these powers.

Firstly, it criticises the interventions in Libya and Syria. Another central theme of the conference is the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Orsini accuses Israel of crimes against humanity and systematic use of state terrorism. He recalls, for example, the episode in which the Israeli military struck 2-year-old Mohammed al-Tamimi and his father in June 2023. Before that date, there had already been hundreds of other killings of Palestinians by the Israeli occupation forces, as well as countless other incidents of gratuitous violence.

Finally, Orsini focuses on the war in Ukraine, denouncing NATO's eastward expansion as one of the main causes of the conflict. He cites a speech by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, delivered on 7 September 2023, in which he admits that NATO has exposed Ukraine to the risk of Russian invasion in order to pursue the Alliance's expansionist policies. Orsini condemns the rhetoric that describes NATO as a purely defensive force, and insists on the need for an open debate on the causes of the conflict.

In conclusion, Alessandro Orsini urges the peace movement to regroup and work courageously to stop the escalation to new global conflicts. He emphasises the importance of intellectual courage to face uncomfortable truths and oppose the dominant narrative, which often distorts the reality of facts in favour of Western powers.
